The difference between disc brake and drum brake

1. Drum brake has a cast iron castings with a shape similar to bell drum, which is called brake drum. It is fixed and rotates at the same speed with the tire. The disc brake has the advantages of better reactivity and stability, better heat dissipation and easy replacement. Drum brake has lower cost and higher absolute braking force, so it is widely used in the rear wheels of small cars. But its wear rate is higher, so the overall cost is higher.
2. Disc brake pads (discs) are divided into ordinary disc type and ventilation disc type.
Ordinary tray is solid. Ventilation disc type has ventilation effect, which means that the centrifugal force generated by the car in the course of operation can make air convection and achieve the purpose of heat dissipation, which is determined by the special structure of disc type disc.
From the appearance, it has many holes leading to the center of the circle on the circumference. They are manufactured by special technology, so they have much better heat dissipation effect than ordinary disc type.
Of course, due to the relationship between manufacturing technology and cost, the front ventilation disc is usually used in middle and high-grade cars, and the brake disc of rear ordinary disc is used in high-quality cars, and the front and rear ventilation disc is used in high-quality cars. In addition, most economical cars use front and rear drum brake pads. The front discs used here are usually ordinary discs rather than ventilation discs.
